Are we allowing healthcare professionals and the healthcare industry to overshadow what our own bodies are telling us?
I recently had a conversation with a doctor about women’s hormones and I was shocked when he revealed to me they still believe that hormonal changes associated with perimenopause are a figment of a woman’s imagination.
This goes far beyond a mere untruth (because of course, these symptoms are very real). This is a systemic issue that disrespects women's experiences and potentially endangers their health by overlooking important imbalances such as insulin resistance, iron deficiency, or thyroid dysfunction.
Our symptoms are not just annoyances to be silenced but signals that require attention and action. Whether it's period pain, persistent headaches, or joint inflammation, these are indicators of deeper issues that, when addressed properly, can transform our health and lives.
Recognising and responding to our body's signals is so important to healing. This means insisting on comprehensive testing and personalised care from our doctors. Because true health care can only happen when we empower and educate ourselves and shift from being passive receivers of health advice to active and informed advocates for our health.
