The other day I was explaining to a new client how her Adrenal Fatigue and thyroid complications was part of a bigger picture about her life. That her symptoms had more meaning than just high cortisol, low progesterone and thyroid hormones.
Most of the women I see today have hormonal imbalances, even young teenagers, women in their 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond into menopause. It's bit of an epidemic!
Yes there are factors such as gut and liver health, and hormones from our environment that hijack our body. But there is a bigger factor….
Our stress hormones (cortisol + adrenalin) will muscle-in on other hormones and boss them around. It will actually block your thyroid hormones from being active making it much easier for you to gain weight (Grrrreat!) and feel really tired!. It makes progesterone less dominant so you can fly off the handle easier, fell depressed, panic, anxious (Poor hubby, kids or colleagues!) It will make you bloated even though nothing about your diet has changed.
It will affect concentration, if your fatigue wasn't enough now you struggle to get through work because your brain is off with the fairies. There are more symptoms to mention, but I think you get the picture.
If we can do something about the stress, then the body can auto-correct itself!! Without too much cortisol there, your body can rebalance all the other hormones. When this happens your metabolism creates more energy, weight falls off easily, bloating disappears, and you're super concentrated at work and can speed through what needs to be done!
Sound good?
Stress hormones are triggered due to so many different reasons, I've seen common themes over the years. Put yourself into my What-if scenarios…
What if your hormone imbalance was a way your body could communicate to you, telling you that something in your life is bothering you. That maybe you've been unhappy or unsatisfied with some area and you don't think you can change it, but your body is signalling that you can?
What if there was something more for you, a bigger vision that you want to achieve but you've been holding yourself back, making you frustrated (but you've been taking it out on the wrong person/situation).
What if this inner yearning is to release the old so you can step up and into the new you, but because you've keeping the status quo the energy has been misdirected and is now negative, causing stress, anxiety and/or depression.
What if you could look into what your symptoms might be telling you about your life, and turn that energy positive, propelling you forward to live your life on purpose and with excitement.
Take 5 mins in solitude (that means totally on your own), time for yourself with no distractions (no devices, people, loud noise) and check in with yourself.
Have your journal handy because you want to write your pearls of wisdom down.
Ask yourself, but ask that inner self not your head, and write down the first thing that comes to you:
Seriously do this today, you will get your answers, but the KEY is to really get quiet and sit with yourself.
Tomorrow we have more discovering to do, so you'll need your answers ready!
Then, let me know what came up for you. If it was clear, or if you struggled to hear anything from your inner self. Let me know you've done it and what you thought. Leave comments below or on Facebook.
Tomorrow I'm writing about the Hero's Journey – and if you're actually on it! Stay tuned!!!
