I've been exercising for years on my own, at home through streaming mat pilates and the Tracy Anderson method (which has suited my body for over 10 years).
But in the last 6 months, I really had to push myself, the motivation wasn't there to exercise on my own at home anymore.
Sometimes I'd stay in activewear for hours with the intention of training, but when it got to 3 pm I knew it wasn't going to happen. I'd get annoyed with myself and felt my motivation wane further.
So I joined a gym, but I found the equipment overwhelming to use correctly (or even facing the machine in the right direction), and I had to wait my turn so it never felt like I had a good workout.
As I'm getting older, I knew I needed strength training so I tried at-home weight training, it was a recipe for injuries.
I recently signed up for personal training and honestly, I regret not doing it earlier.
I have a proper strategy instead of the mish-mash I tried to put together from different sources. Plus, I had the ability to ask questions and be sure I'm doing each movement correctly.
I realised there was no way I was doing proper training on my own at the gym or at home with weights.
I feel so motivated again that I'm doing more training outside of PT.
The reason I'm sharing this story is to show you how a solid strategy can genuinely inspire and motivate you. When we ‘dabble', we're not fully committed and our passion remains untapped.
If you don't have the energy to exercise or find yourself constantly tired, exhausted and overwhelmed, then I encourage you to follow a proper strategy.
