Right now there are billions of processes happening within your body, most of which you will never know about.
Your body is releasing digestive enzymes that are breaking down your breakfast, insulin is being released, in the precise dose, to move glucose into the cells, nutrients are moving to areas where they are needed most, the immune system is doing surveillance for any viruses, bacteria, or cancer cells.
Yet, you are not aware of any of it. It happens without you having to think about it, and you don't control it.
When it comes to our weight, it looks like we're in control.
Thats it's our job to control our body size and number on the scale.
And you may think you're not doing a good job of it.
But if I asked you now to stop moving your white blood cells, could you?
Or to stop your heart pumping?
Or to control your breathing tonight while you're sleeping?
We can't do any of these things.
With so much out of your conscious control, and the fact that your body operates billions of process just fine without you having to think about it, why can't you lose weight?
I see the mental stress women go through with their weight.
Checking the scale everyday, thinking about food all day (was it a good day or bad), criticising their body or back fat in a window reflection, restricting what they do because of their weight…
Is this thinking and mental stress getting in the way?
Mental stress impacts our physiology, our physical body.
Research has shown that 3-mins of a negative thought activates the fight-or-flight response, releases cortsiol, floods the body with glucose then insulin, swtiches on genes that were silent, and shuts down the rest and repair response.
Hypervigilance about our body shape, weight, number on the scale, and food, means that we activate this stress response many times a day.
When it comes to weight, we need to nourish our body and reduce mental stress, in order to repair the metabolism.
